WE: Free the Children
As a local affiliate of the international organization Free The Children (now known as WE), WE: Free the Children at the University of Toronto holds a mandate of helping to free children from crushing effects of poverty and exploitation around the world. We aim to do this by helping young people realize that they truly are agents of positive social change in their own communities and abroad.
Founded in 1995 by international children’s right activist Craig Kielburger, the organization has grown into the world’s largest network of children helping children through education, with more than one million young people involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. WE (or Free the Children) believes in a world where all young people are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change.
The organization's domestic programs educate, engage and empower hundreds of thousands of youth in North America and the UK. Its international projects, led by the holistic and sustainable Adopt a Village model, have brought over 650 schools and school rooms to youth and provided clean water, health care and sanitation to one million people around the world, freeing children and their families from the cycle of poverty.

WE has designed their Developmental Model so that the basic needs of all members of a community are met and there aren't any obstacles preventing children from accessing education. The Adopt a Village Model is unique in that it's a sustainable model made up of five core pillars:
Our student-led group at the University of Toronto is under the official name "WE: Free the Children" which encompasses the new and old name of the organization. We help the organization WE by collecting funds and raising awareness through numerous fundraisers and initiatives throughout the school year. All funds raised from our events go towards our global and local initiatives, more specifically towards our goal of reaching $5000 for our Healthcare pillar in Osonetoi, Kenya. Help us reach our goals by supporting our future events, volunteering your time, or through sponsorships.
