That was in 1995, and it marked the formation of the world-renowned charity, WE (Free the Children).
Years later, Craig Kielburger has become a household name for all change-makers alike: generations of young activists, passionate about making a difference and raising awareness, join the movement to #BeTheChange, educators across the country help students take on impactful local and global initiatives, and young leaders organize meetings, fundraising events, and inspirational talks to propel the movement forward. The proof is in the pudding. WE came a long way (pun intended).
These days, it can be easy to overlook the things we have accomplished, but we needn't look further than our very own campus to feel the history of the movement. A stroll past Trinity College can remind us that Craig walked those very steps. A trudge towards Exam Centre can be made lighter at the thought that he too, has felt the humbling wrath of finals season. And a glance at Convocation Hall can inspire us to walk out someday, just as he did, as a notable alum.
In other words, it's pretty cool to go to the same university as someone inspiring. And if our past accomplishments are any indication, we can achieve incredible things moving forward. Onwards and upwards. Here's to the 2018-2019 year.
